If you’ve ever wondered “how long does it actually take?” to address that household organization project you’ve been putting off for…years, you’re not alone. And it’s why Christi Newrutzen’s TikTok videos have been racking up millions of views as we vicariously find out together exactly how long it takes to declutter your junk drawer, or garage shelves, or closet. She addresses viewers in her signature deadpan style, wearing sunglasses and jammies, and it’s undeniably satisfying seeing her projects come to fruition.

One key hack for cutting those project minutes down even more? DoorDash. We prompted Christi to add DoorDash into the mix for her summer packing and vacation, and she didn’t disappoint.

If you’re looking for summer travel inspo from Gen Z’s own Marie Kondo, check out her packing list and tips.

Summer Packing Essentials

Clothing

  • Bathing suits — fun and colorful is the way to go. Love being in the water!

  • Sunglasses — my signature, I don’t go anywhere without them.

  • Pink slides + flip-flops — absolute musts.

  • Comfy shoes for walking

  • “Dinner Shoes” for when you want to dress up.

  • Summer dresses — quick, easy, and cute (biker shorts underneath for the chub rub).

  • Shorts that are actually long enough for comfort.

  • Shirts — light and flowy

  • Sweaters or light jackets — nights can get chilly.

  • Comfy pajamas — emphasis on "comfy"

Makeup & Toiletries

  • Light summer makeup: tinted SPF, mascara, a bit of powder, blush and a finishing spray (very natural because heavy makeup just melts off in the summer).

  • Makeup remover

  • Toothbrush, toothpaste and floss

  • Moisturizer and face wash.

  • Sunscreen — Always! Always!

  • Jewelry

  • Hairbrush and hair accessories

Tech

  • Phone charger (don't forget).

  • Laptop + HDMI cord (my husband can’t go anywhere without hooking the laptop up to the TV).

Your content has inspired so many people to get organized! What’s your top tip for viewers tackling a chore like packing?

My top tip? Set a five-minute timer. Momentum builds once you begin. And if you're feeling overwhelmed, break it down into tiny steps: pick outfits, grab toiletries, gather chargers, etc. Also laying everything out onto the bed before packing is helpful because then you can see everything and spot anything you've missed.
Also pro tip: if you're tight on space in your luggage, shove underwear and socks in your shoes.

What are the items you never travel without?

I have to have my inflatable headrest for long flights and headphones to watch my downloaded videos beforehand. But once I'm there, I've learned over time from the smart people in my life (my mom) not to stress about forgetting things like toothpaste, shampoo, sandals and whatnot because you can always just get it at your destination. I get really anxious but it's not worth hyper-stressing over on your vacation.

You used DoorDash when packing for your summer trip — any other times DoorDash has come through for you? What did you get?

Yeah absolutely! I’ve moved around a lot, and when I get to a brand new place, everything’s in boxes, I’m tired, and I have zero energy to cook or even find a restaurant. That's like the perfect time to use DoorDash. And I'll usually order something like Thai food or pizza, just to survive those first 24 hours in a new space.

Have you ever forgotten something important for a trip? What was it?

Yes I have! Last year I was flying out to California for a big engagement party my mom had put together for me and my at-the-time fiance (now husband). As we were arriving at the airport, I was talking with my husband, looked down at my hand and realized I left my ring on the counter at home. I literally forgot my engagement ring to the engagement party. I was SO sad. At the party I just had to show pictures of my ring instead. It's a funny story but now I never take my ring off ever!

Any other packing or travel tips you love to share?

Yes! Pack light if you're hopping between locations. I have traveled a lot internationally and trust me, it makes everything easier. If you're staying in one place for a while, sure, bring a few extras. But lugging heavy bags through airports, subways, and cobblestone streets is NOT a fun experience. Also this is really easy to forget but ALWAYS check the weather beforehand!
