It’s hard to find a better medley of flavours than what you’ll taste in Thai cuisine. The sourness of lime offsets the sweet notes in a mango salad; roasted cashews offer a crunchy, salty, fatty component to a spicy stir-fried rice dish. Toronto’s Thai restaurants traverse every region in the Southeast Asian country, often adding their modern take on traditional dishes. I’m certain you’ll find your new favourite restaurant near you somewhere in the list below.

Bangkok Queen Thai Street Food

CxBlog-DD-TOR-Thai-Bangkok-Queen-Thai-Street-Food

In case the name wasn’t a dead giveaway, the menu here is inspired by many of the street food options you’d find at night markets in Thailand, and the casual, breezy vibes of the place evoke that fun spirit as well. Crab rangoon, Thai fish cake, and Crispy Belly Pork (served with chilli and lime sauce) are just some of the most popular options. Larb gai, ground chicken salad with lime juice and fresh herbs, is a refreshing dish to pair with a heartier entree like pad kee mao, rice noodles stir-fried with holy basil and egg in a chilli and dark soy sauce. Opt to top it with the beef, which the kitchen prepares tender and juicy. A clue that the kitchen prepares everything with care: Sides of rice are served shaped like a heart.

Bolan Thai Cuisine

CxBlog-DD-TOR-Thai-Bolan-Thai-Cuisine

Ka-prao Gai Kai-dow is one of Bolan’s most popular dishes, with good reason. Ground chicken is stir-fried with green beans, red pepper, onion, fresh holy basil leaves, chilli, and garlic, all topped with a fried egg. Golden Fried Wontons filled with ground chicken is a fun pairing. Or, opt for a fruit- and veg-forward dish with E-San Som Tum, shredded green papaya with tomato, green beans, fresh chilli, and sweet and sour sauce, served with barbecue chicken and sticky rice. Bolan Thai is one of the few restaurants in the city to offer Riceberry Rice, grown in northern Thailand, and Bua Loy Nam Khing, black sesame dumplings in ginger tea, for dessert.

Chiang Mai Thai Kitchen

CxBlog-DD-TOR-Thai-Chiang-Mai-Thai-Kitchen

The classic dishes are done very well at this spot on the Danforth — and if you want to pair a cocktail with your meal they’ve got a small selection of housemade Thai spirits, too. Spring rolls are stuffed with mushrooms, glass noodles, carrots, and cabbage, with a homemade sweet chilli sauce for dipping. The Thai basil fried rice is bursting with fresh flavours, stir-fried with Chinese broccoli, red peppers, green onions, and egg, and the Malay Curry is a hearty main. Traditional Malaysian-style curry is spiced with roasted turmeric, paprika, dry chilli, and coriander seeds. For spirits, they infuse local gins with chrysanthemum and jasmine teas, and infuse vodka with Thai green tea and lime leaves. This is a Most Loved Restaurant on DoorDash which means it is one of the top-rated and most reliable restaurants on DoorDash.

Eat BKK Thai Kitchen

CxBlog-DD-TOR-Thai-Eat-BKK-Thai-Kitchen

This restaurant is a jubilant celebration of Thai street food and all its dynamic flavours. The Thai curry puffs are a spin on vegetarian samosas, comfort food at its finest. Or try the Krungthep Fried Wings, Thai chicken wings paired with Tom Yum Shaken Fries, dressed with tom yum seasoning. The chef’s special is soft-shell crab, stir-fried with turmeric curry, or atop fried rice. There are multiple locations around the city, including Yonge and Steeles, North York, the Annex, and Leslieville.

Imm Thai Kitchen

CxBlog-DD-TOR-Thai-Imm-Thai-Kitchen

Imm means “full” in Thai, and that’s really the goal here — to fill your belly. The Famous Pad Thai is (no surprise) one of the most ordered dishes for delivery near you; the surprise is the way it’s served, wrapped in an egg crepe, inspired by Thai street food. Another favourite, particularly for vegetarians, is the green curry, which is made with sweet peppers, carrots, broccoli, bamboo shoots, and basil. Add the Malay Bread, Imm’s take on roti, as a side to soak up all of the curry’s creamy goodness.

Isaan Der

Chef Chatsuda “Ko” Drouin traveled around Thailand as a journalist before enrolling in culinary school. The menu is inspired by her travels as well as the dishes of her home province, Issan, which borders Cambodia and Laos. Khao soi is a must, especially if you love noodles. Egg noodles are bathed in a rich curried coconut sauce, and you choose your protein, whether that’s chicken, beef, or seafood. Som tum, or papaya salad, is another regional classic — shredded green papaya with cherry tomatoes, shredded carrots, long yard beans, chillies, and tamarind. Warning: The chillies are ground fresh, so expect spice. There are locations in the Junction and Riverside. This is a Most Loved Restaurant on DoorDash.

Koh Lipe Thai Kitchen

CxBlog-DD-TOR-Thai-Koh-Lipe-Thai-Kitchen

In the heart of Baldwin Village, just a couple blocks from Chinatown, Koh Lipe has garnered international attention for serving up some of the best Thai in Toronto, namely from the folks at the Michelin Guide. The menu is filled with regional dishes from across the country, but the ones from Southern Thailand stand out. The Geang Ka Ti Sa Tor Nua, spicy coconut green curry with plantain and stink bean, might become your new comfort food, while the Choo Chee Pla Too, spicy fried mackerel in coconut curry, is a medley of sweet and savoury flavours. Order Moo Tod, fried pork belly, as a starter — it’s perfectly crunchy.

Koh Samui

CxBlog-DD-TOR-Thai-Koh-Samui

Pad see ew, flat noodles stir-fried with egg, Chinese broccoli, carrots, and sweet pepper in sweet dark soy sauce, is a popular dish here. Fried rice choices include pineapple or tom yum, for those looking for sweet or spice, respectively. If you’re overwhelmed by choice, they also offer set combos, including one for vegans (mango salad, tofu basil, vegetable pad Thai). Locations can also be found on Queen West and in the Junction. This is a Most Loved Restaurant on DoorDash.

Luna Thai Kitchen

CxBlog-DD-TOR-Thai-Luna-Thai-Kitchen

The hot and sour soup is so good at this Forest Hill restaurant, many of my friends claim it’s their go-to to ward off colds and flu. Aside from that, try the pad see ew, fresh rice noodles stir-fried with vegetables in a sweet and spicy sauce, and add a protein of your choice (chicken, beef, shrimp, or seafood), or Panang curry, a rich red curry with coconut cream, green beans, peppers, meat or fish, garnished with lime leaves and basil. Balance those savoury dishes with some sweet sides, like the papaya salad or mango sticky rice. This is a Most Loved Restaurant on DoorDash.

Nimman Thai Cuisine

CxBlog-DD-TOR-Thai-Nimman-Thai-Cuisine

The team leading the kitchen here has impressive culinary pedigrees. Executive chef Minnie Piyawan learned her skills from her mother, who ran five restaurants in Bangkok. And chef Rujipong Boonyuen is the fourth generation member of a family who cooked for Thailand's royal family. Pad Thai Hor Kai is the signature dish, with chicken breast and jumbo tiger shrimp all wrapped in a fried egg. Add the Nimman Platter for Two as a sampler: chicken satays, spring rolls, veggie spring rolls, and fried minced chicken dumplings.

Paddler Thai

CxBlog-DD-TOR-Thai-Paddler-Thai

Inspired by the traditional soups that originated in the floating markets of central Thailand, Paddler’s Thai Boat Noodle soup is one of its most popular dishes. The mild dish is a bowlful of noodles with broccoli, bean sprouts, pork rinds, and herbs in a broth that includes soy sauce and coconut milk. Add some crunch with the Crisp Fried Quail Egg Wontons. For a filling entrée, the Moo Yang is a savoury pick — grilled pork loin marinated in coconut milk and Thai spices. Don’t forget the Thai iced tea, a sweet note to end your meal on.

Pii Nong Thai

CxBlog-DD-TOR-Thai-Pii-Nong-Thai

Chef Pii Nong delivers consistently delicious dishes to hungry folks in Leaside and her restaurant is a top pick for enjoying Thai cuisine in Toronto. I still think about her Thai curry puffs, a potato and veggie filling mixed with curry powder, baked inside a flaky pastry with a hint of sweetness. Beef is cooked perfectly tender. Enjoy it in the simple beef and broccoli dish or on top of pad kra po fried rice. The kitchen also sells frozen versions of their Green, Red, and Massaman curries. This is a Most Loved Restaurant on DoorDash.

Sala Modern Thai Kitchen & Bar

CxBlog-DD-TOR-Thai-Sala-Modern-Thai-Kitchen-&-Bar

The kitchen team at this restaurant on the Danforth has perfected the classics, while adding their spin in surprising ways. Chef Mo’s tom yum pad Thai adds seafood paste to the sauce to add depth, while pad gra po is inspired by Thai street food, topping minced meat, holy basil, onion, red pepper, and bamboo slices with a fried egg. The Thai Roti Pancake is a dessert inspired by night markets — pan-fried roti enveloping banana and Nutella, and topped with sesame and roasted cashews. This is a Most Loved Restaurant on DoorDash.

Salad King

CxBlog-DD-TOR-Thai-Salad-King

This Toronto restaurant has been curing Thai cravings in the city for 30 years, and is beloved by university students and shoppers who have long frequented its Yonge and Dundas location because of great prices and generous portions. (There’s also a location on Queen West.) They’re known for their curries, including spicy Panang and a gentler green curry, the classic Phud Thai (which is halal), and the vegetarian-friendly Evil Jungle Prince, a vegetable medley of eggplant, baby corn, peas, mushroom, carrot, bell peppers, bamboo shoot, and lemongrass served with steamed rice. “Evil” here means spicy, so consider that a warning.

Satay on the Road

CxBlog-DD-TOR-Thai-Satay-on-the-Road

This is the Thai restaurant of my childhood, where I first developed a love for this Southeast Asian cuisine. Satay on the Road has been serving Thai and Malaysian food to folks in Leaside and North Toronto for over 30 years (they now have a second location in Ledbury Park). Their green mango salad and Nut Chicken are classics and among the restaurant’s most ordered dishes. The wonton soup is also popular, chicken wontons and Napa cabbage in vegetable broth. Don’t forget the deep-fried bananas for dessert — sweet, gooey, delicious. It will make your inner child very happy. This is a Most Loved Restaurant on DoorDash.

Sorn Thai Restaurant

CxBlog-DD-TOR-Thai-Sorn-Thai-Restaurant

One of the best Thai restaurants in North Toronto, Som Thai has long been a favourite of locals. The pad Thai is their most loved dish, but they’ve also got some unique dishes not found on other menus. Up Country Soup is a staple of rural Thailand — shrimp, Napa cabbage, mushrooms, green beans, and baby corn in a hearty lemongrass broth. And the Spicy Mixed Seafood is a medley of tiger shrimp, crab meat, squid, and mussels, with eggplant, green beans, basil, and bamboo. This is a Most Loved Restaurant on DoorDash.

Thai House Cuisine

CxBlog-DD-TOR-Thai-Thai-House-Cuisine

A favourite for those in the Beach, some of the most-loved dishes here include Crispy Tamarind Beef, crispy beef with fresh ginger, sweet pepper, onion, and crispy shallot topped with tamarind sauce and the pad see ew, rice noodles, broccoli, carrot, and egg paired with tofu, chicken, or shrimp. Add one of their delicious fresh fruit smoothies, like lychee or Thai iced tea, which is their signature. This is a Most Loved Restaurant on DoorDash.

Thai Mango

CxBlog-DD-TOR-Thai-Thai-Mango

The set meals at this family-run restaurant in the Annex are perfect if you’re ordering for a group. Whether it’s two people or 10, the kitchen has created group menus that include spring rolls, salads, curries, and heartier dishes like Phad Thai and Ginger Chicken. If you love spice, try their spicy Malay curry, and pair it with the roti or veggie samosas. The restaurant often sets up an open mic for karaoke, so consider this a suggestion to recreate the experience at home.

Thai Noodle

CxBlog-DD-TOR-Thai-Thai-Noodle

Given the restaurant’s name, it only makes sense that the speciality here is Thai boat noodles, or guay tiew Thai. The classic guay tiew is rice noodles, veggies, and a protein in a Thai broth. Spice lovers will finish every drop of the guay tiew tom yam, rice noodles in tom yam soup, with meat, crispy wontons, fish balls, and vegetables. (The restaurant describes this as “extra spicy,” so be warned.) Guay Jap is another special hearty offering — noodles and bean sprouts with egg, crispy barbecued pork, giblets, and blood cake in an herbal soup.

Thai Room Grand

CxBlog-DD-TOR-Thai-Thai-Room-Grand

Thai Room Grand blends Thai and Malaysian culinary traditions on their menu, delivering near you from locations in Midtown and Don Mills. Curry Pad Thai, one of the restaurant’s most popular dishes, is a great example of fusion between the two food influences. Rice noodles are tossed in tamarind sauce and curry spices then stir-fried. Egg and tofu are added as well as green onion, lemon, and roasted peanuts as garnishes. Curry fans will love all the options, both sweet and spicy, whether that’s pineapple red curry shrimp or Massaman curry lamb. This is a Most Loved Restaurant on DoorDash.
