Welcome to Make/Buy/Zhuzh, a series where we plan a get together with three components: one thing you make from scratch, one thing you buy straight off the shelf, and one thing you accessorize to completion.

It’s summer, and that means it’s primetime for an easy finger-food meal. You know the kind: you spend just a few minutes in the kitchen and then magically throw down a variety of tasty morsels so guests can munch their way through a deliciously casual gathering of finger-licking fun.

The key to easy-entertaining success here is twofold: First, the effort must be minimal. Second, the food should maximize pleasure with crave-worthy noshables that gets guests excited to dig in, no utensils needed.

Enter Wendy’s Saucy Nuggs. We already know their crispy chicken nuggets are irresistible and the Spicy ones are iconic. But Wendy’s is helping us all spread our nugget-loving wings by branching into Saucy Nuggs — crispy chicken nuggets tossed in your choice of seven excitingly flavorful new sauces. Bonus: they’re currently available for delivery exclusively to DashPass members (sign up!) from June 10 through July 10. Also snag our Summer of DashPass deal from July 4 through July 10, 2024 and get $10 off orders $20+ with Saucy Nuggs at Wendy’s. Learn more about Summer of DashPass deals.

Partner your favorite grab-and-gobble Nuggs with vibrantly flavored mini corn on the cobs and mondo ice cream cookie sandwiches. Both take mere minutes to make, ensuring this Nuggs Nosh is pure lazy-summer gold. Follow our lead:

Make: Miso Honey Butter, Sriracha-Mayo, or Herby Caesar Mini Corn on the Cobs

You know how elote — the Mexican-style roasted corn on the cob seasoned with mayo cream sauce, chili powder, Cojita cheese, and lime — brings exciting complexity to the summer fruit (technically, corn is fruit!)? Well, there are endless ways to season summer’s favorite side. Following are three that can stand up to the exciting flavors of your Saucy Nuggs:

First, boil corn minis or or halved corn on the cobs for 3 to 5 minutes in salted water. Then dress the warm cobs with any of the following options; each of the following recipes makes enough to season 4 whole cobs or 8 half cobs:

Miso Honey Butter Corn Minis

In a bowl, combine 4 tablespoons room-temperature salted butter, 3 tablespoons honey, and 1 teaspoon sweet white miso paste, and mix to combine. Spread over corn, season with salt to taste, and serve.

Sriracha-Mayo Corn Minis

In a small bowl, mix together 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise and 3 tablespoons of sriracha, spread in a thin layer over corn, and serve.

Herby Caesar Corn Minis

In a small bowl, mix together 4 tablespoons mayonnaise, 5 teaspoons fresh lemon juice, ⅛ teaspoon dried garlic granules, ½ teaspoon kosher salt, and ¼ teaspoon black pepper. In another bowl, mix together ¼ cup finely grated Parmesan, ¼ cup fresh chopped flat leaf parsley, and ⅛ cup minced chives. Brush the corn with the mayonnaise sauce, then roll it in the Parmesan mix, and serve.

Buy: Wendy's New Saucy Nuggs

Wendy's Saucy Nuggs (available exclusively to DashPass members from June 10 -July 10!) broaden your chicken-nugget-loving horizons by tossing their regular or spicy nuggets in your choice of four delicious sauces. Paired with your choice of cooling ranch or blue cheese dipping sauce, they’re perfect for double dippin’ fun. Get the party started by picking your flavors, available as a 4-, 6-, 10-, 20-piece, or party pack (don’t forget to order cookies for dessert too):

  • Buffalo: get ready for cayenne-based flavors with buttery undertones and a subtle kiss of vinegary tangy.

  • Spicy Buffalo: take the above and crank up the heat!

  • Garlic Parm: expect savory, well-balanced classic Italian flavor.

  • Spicy Garlic Parm: think classic Italian with a fiery twist.

  • Honey BBQ: cue the perfect balance of smoky, sweet, and tang.

  • Spicy Honey BBQ: level up sweet ‘n’ tangy with a welcome explosion of heat.

  • Ghost Pepper: intensely hot and lingering spice meets layered savory seasonings.

Zhuzh: Chocolate Chip, Sugar, and Oatmeal Ice Cream Sandwiches

Wendy’s fresh-baked cookies are tasty, crispy-soft, and jumbo size, making them perfect for bolstering a hearty scoop of ice cream.

Decide whether you want to go with chocolate chunk cookies — they’re loaded with hunks of semisweet chocolate and have the perfect amount of salt to perk up the cookie flavor — or their quintessential sugar cookies or oblong oatmeal bars, which have delicious oatmeal cookie flavor. Better yet, opt for all three to offer a variety of ice cream sandwiches.

To make the ice cream sandwiches, order two Wendy’s cookies of choice for each guest, scoop 1 cup of firm but scoopable vanilla ice cream onto the back of one cookie, smooth it down with a spoon, then top with the back of another cookie so the tops of the cookies are facing outwards. They’re delicious as is, but if you want to take it over the top, roll the cookies in sprinkles or chocolate or white chocolate shavings. Then serve immediately or wrap the sandwiches in parchment or plastic wrap and freeze until you’re ready to eat them.
